Print & Book Making Workshop @36 Lime Street with Theresa Easton

studio

Saturday’s Workshop in Print & Bookmaking @36 Lime Street with Theresa Easton started off with a sunny studio, tea and coffee.  Participants dived into the printmaking materials, creating a wide range of printed pages for 3 different book designs.  The day  flew by and by the afternoon the work table was covered in stitched and folded books.  There was still enough time, just before the end, to see what everyone had made and incorporated into their unique books. The ‘rummage box’ offered some inspiring Japanese Kite Designs donated by Kay Henderson many moons ago.  The next Print & Bookmaking workshop is an evening workshop taking place Tuesday June 25th &  July 2nd 6.30pm-9pm. For a booking form download HERE. If you are keen to try your hand at bookmaking and can’t wait until then, Deidre Thompson will be delivering an inspiring afternoon of bookbinding as part of the BALTIC Artist’s Book Fair June 14th 2013.  For further details, checkout FabuousBooks, FantasticPlaces, part of the Festival of the North East, there’s a lot going on up North! or why not pick up a ‘Make Your Own Book Kit from Northern Print or the Biscuit Factory.  If you need some inspiration why not make it to the Maker Faire at Newcastle’s Centre for Life, Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th April where Theresa Easton will be on hand to provide some instant bookmaking ideas for you to construct yourself and upload pictures to the growing encyclopedia of hand made  @DIY Make Your Own Book Kits.

Textile Hub member, Jane Frazer: Experimental Knitting @ The Shipley

‘A great course for knitters who collect things: pebbles or sticks from the beach, shells, post cards, stamps, bus tickets, and other small memorabilia’.

In October I am running an experimental knitting course at The Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead,  inspired by the Susie Freeman Jacket in their collection, which will be on display in the
exhibition –Collected Threads: Textiles from the Shipley Craft Collection.

If you have objects hidden away in drawers and boxes which are rarely seen and would you like to view these precious items more often but don’t know where to put them? Or if you are passionate about something and would like to express your views in a piece of knitted wall art encapsulating photographs, press cuttings, or even your own drawings ? This is the course for you!

You will be able to make a personal or social statement by incorporating your found or collected objects in a unique knitted window, wall hanging or small sculpture. You will be shown various ways of trapping  the objects in the knitting which will include creating sealed pockets, working with objects with holes in them, and adding your items to a finished piece of knitted work. With the emphasis on design and experimentation you will produce a highly individual and original piece of art.

As the course will include knitting with yarns such as fine cottons and linen, and especially wire and monofilament;   an experience of knitting is essential.

Printmaking & Book Binding @ 36 Lime Street 7th July

Saturdays  print & bookbinding workshop at Theresa Easton’s new space on Level 2 @ 36 Lime Street started in a warm summery studio with a group of eager participants travelling from as far afield as Bury in Lancashire!

The morning was spent experimenting with printing techniques using a well seasoned etching press from Intaglio Printmaker, the drying rack was soon stuffed with prints waiting to dry, ready for the afternoons session of glueing, stitching and folding.

The afternoon kicked off with a welcome donation of chocolates provided by Lorraine & Chris.  Participants made a series of books including two different types of folded books, two pamphlet stitch books and a Japanese stab bound book.

There are still a couple of places on the next print & book workshop, 18th August 10-4pm.  For further information, download Booking Form Summer 2012 print&Bookforweb  Summer Print & Book2012
