Grabadoras

GRABADORsecuredownloadAS  (spanish for ‘female printmakers’) is an exhibition by Daisy Billowes, Zoe Molloy and Miriam Hancill.

It showcases work that is based around the idea of extended print-making, with each artist using the medium to create work in a way that stretches away from it’s ‘traditional’ forms. All three artists are final year students at Newcastle University.

36 Lime Street Gallery will be open Saturday 7 & Sunday  March, 12-4pm.

Daisy Billowes will here to talk to visitors. Zoe Molloy and Miriam Hancill may also be here at points throughout the day.

In her first solo exhibition, Rachel McDermott presents a body of new works fusing functional motifs with seemingly non-functional gestures. Exhibiting works on paper, and maquettes,Things explores the semiotic consequence of abstraction imposed upon formal design.

A capricious marriage of minimalism and abstract expressionism is demonstrated in works on paper, in which imagery of furniture and architectural design combine with gestural drawing. Mark making becomes a mechanism to erase and reframe, as unstable oppositions evoke inherent aporia. Maquettes examine the distance between sculpture, architecture and prototype, eliminating hierarchies to construct a nameless form – or ‘thing.’

Rachel McDermott was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1990. She studied in Leeds and Newcastle, and lives and works as a visual artist and arts writer in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Latest exhibition @ 36 Lime Street, Cath Campbell

@ 36 Lime Street Gallery

Gallery opening times:
Saturday 18th & Saturday 25th January, 12pm – 5pm

there will be time, there will be time presents four new large-scale photographic prints by Cath Campbell.

Each image captures a moment from a video of a stranger’s tour of the Empire State Building, found by the artist on YouTube. Subtitled by Google translate, the original narrative accompanying the video is transformed into something strangely compelling and poetic. Divorced from their original language and visual progression, the images become cinematic escapes into the unknown.

Using virtual means to travel the world, Cath Campbell appropriates found images, films and stories, to create scenarios of vicarious adventure and exploration, deliberately challenging notions of truth, reality and desire.
